WHAT WE DO

Regional Utility Networks

Recycling for a Greener Future in Al Reem Island
  • Power
Regional electricity infrastructure and utility corridors have been developed to support residential, commercial, and community developments across Al Reem Island. Future capacity requirements are coordinated with the relevant electricity authorities and service providers as development progresses.

  • Potable Water
The island’s regional potable-water distribution infrastructure is connected to Abu Dhabi’s wider water transmission system and supports the requirements of developments across Al Reem Island.

  • Natural Gas
An integrated natural-gas network supports connections to developments across the island, subject to the requirements and approvals of the relevant service provider.

  • District Cooling
District-cooling infrastructure supports efficient building cooling within applicable developments. By serving multiple buildings through shared systems, district cooling can improve operating efficiency and reduce the need for individual cooling installations.

  • Irrigation and Recycled Water
The irrigation network has been designed to support landscaping and public green spaces across Al Reem Island and to accommodate recycled-water use when the required supply is available.

  • Sewerage
Regional sewerage infrastructure collects and conveys wastewater from Al Reem Island to the wider Abu Dhabi treatment system. Bunya coordinates the common infrastructure and interfaces required to support existing and future developments.

Enabling Sustainable Growth

Through integrated infrastructure planning, Bunya seeks to reduce network duplication, safeguard utility corridors and support more efficient use of land and resources.

Our approach ensures that infrastructure development is coordinated with the island’s growth and the long-term requirements of its residents, businesses and development partners.

Information for Developers, Consultants and Contractors

Developers, consultants and contractors undertaking work on Al Reem Island must coordinate with Bunya regarding applicable utility interfaces, infrastructure requirements and No Objection Certificates.

Ensuring 24/7 Security on Al Reem Island

Bunya appointed a private security company on Al Reem Island for different security tasks.

These include but are not limited to patrolling for surveillance of the public realm around the clock 24×7 daily, weekly, and monthly health and safety monitoring on all infrastructure projects and monitoring the assets and activities on Al Reem Island.

Al Reem Island Environmental Compliances

Bunya appointed a third-party consultant to carry out environmental auditing surveys to determine the environmental compliance level of all the under-construction projects.

This is required until the completion of projects as required by EAD in compliance with the environmental impact assessment and preliminary construction environmental management plan.

Infrastructure Projects

TRANSPORTATION

More than Dh11 billion has been earmarked for investment in regional and local infrastructure projects on Al Reem Island. This amount excludes innovative solutions such as the planned multi-layered public transport network systems on the island. Bunya is constructing the main regional infrastructure on the island, which will crisscross through the light trail system and interconnect its various districts, including the traffic signalling systems. This will enable utilities to be quickly and easily installed and ready for all three master developers and their third-party developers.

Cycling and Walking Routes

The element in the urban context provides the characteristics of a walkable community concept.

All internal roads are designed in such a way as to encourage and allow the maximum pedestrian activities.

Internal roads will include dedicated or shared bicycle lanes to encourage residents to travel by riding bicycles.

Application for No Objection Certificate

Application for No Objection Certificate

It is mandatory to obtain the necessary approvals from the respective authorities and master developers through Bunya (as per the standard requirements). Application for No Objection Certificates (NOC) shall be submitted to Bunya as per the guidelines, and the NOC will be issued for all works, services, events, activities, etc., to be carried out within ARI.
